Did you know that St John’s Parish has an Educational Fund that awards modest bursaries to tertiary level students?
If you are currently studying or have been accepted to study a first degree or diploma (i.e. not studying for a second degree or post graduate studies) and are in need of financial assistance towards those studies, you are invited to apply for a bursary. Whilst the criteria for successful application includes the need of the applicant, such issues as church membership and the ‘quality’ of the qualification are also factors that our assessment teams consider.
As of the 20th of September 2024, the St. John’s Parish Wynberg Educational Fund opened its doors to applications for financial assistance to qualifying candidates for the 2025 academic year. This is not a large Bursary Scheme but it certainly provides a boost to the efforts of around 30 - 35 successful applicants each year, many of whom, mostly from elsewhere in Africa, study, run families, and work part-time.
Applications close on Friday, 22nd of November 2024, and email requests for applications may be sent to: administrator@stphilipskenwyn.co.za. All completed application forms should be returned via email.
Applicants do not have to be members of our parish churches. If you are interested in applying, please do this as soon as possible. You can also ask Sharon, our Church Administrator or click here for a form.
The Fund is a Registered NPO, and is audited externally. The six churches in the parish contribute towards this Fund as well as some individual donors. While we do not have huge resources, we try to contribute to the educational and economic needs of our nation. As an approved Section 18A public benefit organisation, the Fund encourages others to contribute as giving others a helping hand with their studies can have significant far-reaching implications. It issues tax certificates to enable donors to claim tax deductions. The Management Committee has representatives on the panel from each of the 6 churches in the parish.
Thank you to Bernice Adonis who has agreed to be the representative on the Management Committee from St John’s Church, Wynberg. She comes with a wealth of experience as an English teacher at a TVET (Technical, Vocational Education and Training) College.
